Registered Mail is now available!

This time we would like to announce that Cosmates now supports a new delivery method: International Registered Mail!

With International Registered Mail a barcode is created for each package, so in the unlikely event that a package is lost we can investigate what happened to it.
(*Internet tracking is not available in some countries. Our staff can request an investigation via the Japanese Postal Service.)

Also, since our store automatically insures each of these purchases, if the results of an investigation confirm that your package has indeed been lost, you will receive a full refund.

What were called "Airmail Small Packet" and "SAL Small Packet" are the same as before; but now we also have the two new types of International Registered Mail, which are "Registered Airmail" and "Registered SAL".

So because of these new additions, "Airmail Small Packet" and "SAL Small Packet" will now be called "Non-Registered Airmail" and "Non-Registered SAL" instead.

It's unfortunate to have to say, but some customers select a shipping method that does not come with insurance and then their package is lost, it's rather unfair to try to ask for a refund.

Asking for a refund when you didn't get insurance is like demanding to be compensated after being in a car crash even though you haven't paid a single dollar towards car insurance first.

There's only a small 200 yen (about $2.60) difference in cost between Registered Mail and Regular Mail.

Because of the current recession there has been an increase in thieves(*) worldwide, so if you want to make sure you will receive a refund if your package is lost, please be sure to select EMS or Registered Mail.
(*We think this also includes the kind of thieves who purposefully try to receive compensation even though they don't have insurance.)

Improved credit card system

We have heard it mentioned that one of the major weaknesses of our store is that since many of our products aren't in stock, it takes too long for the items to be stocked and shipped after they are ordered.

So, in order to solve this problem, almost all socks by Fanplusfriend have been stocked in advance for now.

*Concerning Donations*

Sorry for the late update, but we just recently donated everyone's contributions to the Japanese Red Cross.

We had said that we would donate 20% of all profits during the sale period; but because our store's actual profits are only about 25% of the money that comes into the store, and because immediately after the earthquake many people were hesitant to buy from Japan, this didn't end up being a very large amount.

So, with some extra from our shop, we were able to donate a total of 50,000 yen (approximately $625 USD).

The "profits" mentioned above are, more accurately, the "gross profits". Most of the profits are lost due to labor costs and various other expenses.
We hope you understand that this is the very greatest amount that our shop was able to donate.

Incidentally, the Red Cross has yet to issue us a certificate for our donation, but as soon as they do we will announce it on our blog.

Well, as many of you may know, recently the level of the accident at the nuclear power plant in Fukushima was determined to be level 7, the same level as Chernobyl.

Because of this many people are overreacting, and are hesitant to buy Japanese-made products, even such products as electrical appliances and clothing.

Recently in Tokyo, 2 to 3 times the normal amount of radiation (0.10 µSv per hour) has been observed.

To have an effect on one's health, it is said that one must be exposed to 100 mSv=100,000 µSv over the course of a whole year, but if one is exposed to the current levels of radiation for one whole year, it would only add up to about 1/114 of that.
Therefore, these levels wouldn't have any kind of effect on one's health.

The risk of cancer from 100 mSv will raise by 0.5%. This is the farther lower level than the one of possible harm that tobacco incurs.
Worrying about this level of radiation is like worrying about the risk of cancer that comes with wearing clothes that have been exposed to tobacco smoke.

Initially we were very worried because we did not know much about the radiation, but at least now we know that there are no concerns about health risks in Tokyo.

Now, alongside the negative effects caused by worries about the original earthquake, the tsunami, and the nuclear power plant accident, rumors of this fourth threat are causing even more damage.
With this overreaction to the radiation levels, it is more important now than ever to support Japan by continuing to buy Japanese products!

Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Charity Sale

We realize that many people may have already made contributions toward relief efforts for the victims of the Eastern Japan earthquakes, but our store will also be contributing by holding a charity sale.

Effects of the Earthquake and Nuclear Power Plant Accidents

Our sincerest apologies for the recent long break we had to take. We are very grateful for all of the emails of sympathy and encouragement we received.

As you know, because of the major earthquake and resulting tsunami that occurred off of Miyagi Prefecture and the recent nuclear power plant accidents in Fukushima, the situation in Japan (especially Eastern Japan) has become very serious.

However, our office is located in Tokyo, which is more than 300km (about 185 miles) away from Miyagi Prefecture, so the earthquake caused us very little damage.

Even though the Fukushima nuclear plant is located more than 200km (about 125 miles) away, and the level of radioactive material that was dispersed is very low and does not pose an danger to health, there was a lot of uncertainty.

By way of precaution, we temporarily stopped sales and distribution for the week of the 15th through the 22nd in order to ensure the safety of our employees.

Since our company does not have any deals with manufacturers in the Tohoku region, the earthquakes, tsunami, and nuclear power plant accidents have not had a direct effect on our business.

Also, many of our products are produced in China, so it is highly unlikely that the dispersion of radioactive material would pose any kind of safety hazard.

Addition of new payment methods!

This time we would like to announce a way we are improving our service.
This store will now accept several other forms of payment besides just credit cards and Paypal!

The three new methods are: International Postal Money Order (IPMO), cash, and International Bank Transfer.

IPMO are money orders issued by the post office. If and how they are issued varies depending on which country you live in, but since we do business with 80 different countries perhaps your country issues them, as well.

In the United States you have to send IPMO through the mail, but in some other countries you can make transfers to our store's postal account directly through the post office.

Cash means literally just cash. But please only send cash in the form of paper money and by means of registered mail.

With an International Bank Transfer, you can deposit money into our bank account directly via your bank.

So now even if you don't have a credit card or a Paypal accounts, you can still shop at our store!

If you have friends who do not have credit cards or Paypal accounts, please let them know about this.

However, there are several important points and warnings to keep in mind when using these payment methods.

Cheaper Shipping Method Added!!

Today, we would like to inform you about a new and improved service.
We are now offering a cheaper shipping method called "SAL Small Packet".

To give an example, if you place an order from the United States for an item that weighs 500 grams, shipping via EMS would cost $18 and Airmail Small Packet would cost $9, but SAL Small Packet would cost a mere $6! (That's only 1/3 the cost of EMS!)

When you talk about $6 shipping, that's just about as cheap as if you were ordering something from somewhere within your own country!

SAL is very reasonably priced, but it does have some limitations.

First of all, the delivery will take a long time.
At best, SAL will take about 2 weeks to arrive; but during the Christmas season and for other holidays and the like, you should allow at least 3 weeks.

When buying products for birthdays, parties, conventions, or other special events, you should not choose this shipping method.
If you do choose to use this shipping method for a special event, please make sure to order ahead of time and allow absolutely no less than 1 month for shipping.

Secondly, you will not be able to track your package.
Just like EMS, it is not possible to verify the delivery status of the package online.

Also, insurance will not be available.

EMS is fast and safe, but a bit on the expensive side.

With this delivery method, for example, it would only cost 1160 yen to send a product weighing 500g (=1.10 lbs.) to North America or Europe.

Recently, it seems that we have been having frequent troubles with our site. We are sure the disappearance of portions of data from the site has caused trouble for some people, and for this we are very sorry.

The latest trouble with the system is most likely being caused by one of the factors listed below.

1) The sudden increase in the number of products
2) An increase in the number of users accessing the site
3) The server having insufficient memory
4) A problem in the system design
5) Insufficiency of the site admin to properly manage the site

In a word, it was because the system design, admin's abilities and server specs were not keeping up with the enlargement of the site.

New Brands of Costumes Added!

We've added two new costume brands: "Good Luck" and "Emily".
These brands are made by the Clearstone company; the former is mainly a costume uniform brand and the latter is a maid clothes brand.

These new brands will feature several variations.
Many products will come in sizes S through XL, so these larger products will fit our European and American customers who are larger than Japanese.

Also, we've made arrangements to sell many other unique costume items such as gakuran (male student uniforms), aprons and hair accessories for maids, and cosplay wigs.

We have received lots of requests from lots of different customers for larger sizes.
Now, we're glad that we're finally able to answer everyone's requests.

Last time we announced that we were giving up on adding new gothic lolita brands.
But this time we're withdrawing that announcement.

We've thought out a new method to lawfully sell products without a contract with the manufacturers.
According to this new method, we're able to sell products from every brand and every manufacturer.
In addition, the customer can choose and purchase products while viewing similar products, photographs and product descriptions by using the shopping cart.

However, because this method doesn't stock items at wholesale trade value, the price won't be lowered very often.
But this will probably come as good news for fans of other brands.

The accuracy of the translation may be not good, but we believe this translation tool will help many customers who speak these languages.

*Concerning AX2007*

A little while ago we informed our customers that we may be participating in the anime convention AX2007 in California, but, regrettably, we were unable to participate this time.

This is because we were not able to work things out with the resident California exhibitor. It is rather difficult for Japanese citizens to participate as exhibitors, but despite this we think we would like to try again for next time.

A while ago, you may remember we sent out an newsletter asking to hire English proofreaders.
There were over 70 applicants for proofreading positions. It was very hard to choose from so many people, but in the end we selected 13 total staff members.

We have 2 main staff employees, 4 sub-staff, and 7 members on reserve.
The two main staff members are Jessica and Stephanie.

We were looking for English proofreaders, but they proved to have knowledge in Japanese as well, so they will also actively work as our translators!

News #3 -- Cosmates may attend AnimeExpo 2007

Cosmates is planning of possibly attending Anime Expo 2007 (AX2007), a convention in Long Beach Convention Center, Los Angeles, from June 29th to July 2nd.

Thus, we are now looking for a group to participate in this event as our representatives!
These representatives would temporarily participate in the event as official Cosmates staff members.

Final Dicision About Bodlyline Products

This is a somewhat good news.
We have removed all of Bodlyline products yesterday, but we will relist soon.

I have received a final answer from a Bodyline staff today, and they have permitted us to sell their products finally.However, they don't sell them at the wholesale prices any longer.

We can stock and sell their products, but we have to buy them like a normal customer, therefore the prices when we stock will rise much than before.

The retail prices will become more expensive from now on.

However, we have avoided the worst situation.

There is a very very sad news for gothic lolita fans.

I received a telephone call from a staff of Bodyline one hour before, and he said "Stop selling our products next week".

The reason is that it is not easy to sell the products to the retailer like us than the normal customers.

Maybe we can't sell the products of Bodyline any longer.

I have requested them to give us a permission to use their photos and buy from them as one customer(resaler), not one retailer. They will reply our request later, but I think they will say "NO".

Even If I can continue to use the photos and resale, the prices become higher than now. If you are going to buy some products of Bodyline, please order as soon as possible.

We have so far built the good relationship with Bodyline, However it has become a thing in the past.
